Well I am a bit shocked and dismayed to be honest.
There seems to be an axe hanging over any permanent resident in Australia.
I read a recent story (amongst a lot of others) about a man who is being deported after living in Australia for 16 years.
He is a permanent resident but not a citizen of Australia. He has been here in Australia since 7 years old and has all his family here, including kids of his own.
Granted, he is not a great citizen (oh wait..) having drug related offences etc and having spent time in prison, which meant the Australians decided to revoke his visa and chuck him out.
I don't think this is fair nor humane, if you let someone stay in your country that long you don't have the right to exile them to get rid of your problems. This is an abuse of power.
Don't get me wrong, I know migrants to Australia are on probation until citizenship. Fair enough, but there needs to be a cut off point where you cannot exile/deport someone.
They guy has no ties to his home country at all.
I am shocked to have read this.
Sure, if he arrived within the last few years and did this, do your thing Australia, kick him out, but to do this to someone who is effectively an Australian - shocking.
This behavior leads other permanent residents to lose respect and care for Australia. Do Australians really want disenchanted people living here?
There are whole pockets of people in Australia who are just living under the axe, slip up and you are out!
Shame.

Is Sydney's house market about to crash?
Personally, I think the Sydney house prices are about to crash, and are already crashing.
Having lived in the UK and seen how expensive house prices got and then watched as house prices levelled (because it was unsustainable) and then eventually dived, its like living in de je vu.
It took 5 years to sell a house for the same price you bought it.
A cheap 4 bedroom house is well over a million dollars now in Sydney, the payments on a million dollars per month is over $7000 per month. most people cannot afford that.
I have seen multiple auctions in my area where nothing gets sold.
On top of this the interest rate has just been increased by the banks as they are aware of this growing risk.
On top of this the bigger banks are insisting on 20% deposits - which means they are scared. A storm is coming.
Sydney's house prices are so far out of reach that my mate who sits next to me, who is 35 years old, has a senior job in IT, has told me he has no hope of buying a house for his family. He has literally given up.
If guys with good six figure incomes are no longer able to buy houses, something is about to crack.
The housing market is going to fall and fall bad.
Purchases have slowed down, sellers are starting to struggle to get buyers.
Once the buying market get wind of this the market will fail.
Add to this the falling Australian dollar... watch the carnage folks!!!

The best way to transfer money internationally

Ok, What does an Australian Redback Spider look like?
So you have moved to Australia. One of the many things you will want to know is what does a red-back spider look like?
Australia is very wary of this spider. I have even seen motorcycle warning posters "beware the hitchhiker" as these spiders have been known to move in on cars and motorbikes.
This is the female and her body can get to 1.5cms. She can reduce you to a 90 year old if she gets in a good bite.
They are found all over Australia. The male redback is a few millimetres in length and live something like 8 weeks only.

one of the most venomous spiders in the world. This is the female, only the female is dangerous.
Anti venom is available at hospitals etc. Normally you just get a very very sore and consistently painful bite.
If it s whole body bite (i.e. you are completely messed up). You're in for trouble and need to get the emergency department of the nearest hospital. These are especially dangerous to small children.
No one has died from this spider since the 1950's. They like dry areas such as outdoor toilets, sheds and garage corners.
They have been known to play dead. Make sure its dead!!!!

immigrating to Australia, Open letter to the australian government
Little did I know when I went on work assignment in the Philippines, that my move after that to Australia would be soured by such draconian cruelty. As Australia does not trust the Philippines control over its affairs regarding animals, they will not accept any animals from the Philippines.
This means that any pets you may have will have to spend SIX months IN quarantine in ANOTHER country. SIX months! This is so cruel. Really Australia, you should make some sort of exception.
One of my dogs was even born in Wollongong south of Sydney. Shame on you.

This guy... does not give up.
We tried to keep him away from our porch as the landlord of our new rental in Sydney, Hornsby had warned us about him and his mates. Apparently if they don't get birdseed, they strip the wood fro the place looking for a few seeds between the cracks,
We chase him away and he literally flies to the nearest branch and gets angry with us waits for us to move in the house and he just comes back.
So for the first few months we did this, with him landing on our railing, puffing his chest and spreading his wings. We eventually gave up. He is now quite peaceable, waiting for his mate and letting her eat with him. Even sits thee with us after eating, they seem to enjoy our company.

Isn't this beautiful?
They are fearless with other bigger birds, The bigger white sulphur crested cockatoos turn up screaming and waddle up into their faces puffin up their chests but these guys just stand up to them by just staring and not moving. the cockatoos who are twice the size just back off.
Since moving to Sydney recently these beautiful birds have given us hours of joy. One turns up with an old broken wing, and there are a few fluffy baby ones. We have about 6-8 that turn up.
They only eat raw meat currently, we used to give them steak, but its too expensive so we downgraded to mince meat.

Thinking of immigrating to Australia and need a good lawyer or agent to help you?
Although I know of some friends of mine who acquired their Australian work visas and their Australian citizenship by filling in and lodging all the forms themselves, this can be a risky, daunting and complex process. Its expensive and long and you really don't want to get it wrong.

Not all lawyers are good at immigration and may not even specialize completely in immigration matters.
Watch out for websites that claim this as it could be all a sales pitch. Anyone can put up a great website ticking all the right boxes. You need to make sure you find someone who's sole purpose is immigration and who's reputation and living is based on visa applications to Australia only. Make sure you use someone that comes recommended by people who have used them.
Later in this article I will recommend a few visa lawyers that I personally have used and can recommend and also a few that I have seen recommended repeatedly on immigration forums around the globe.
Some visa applications are tricky and borderline (like re-acquiring a Permanent Residence visa after it expires) and you really do not want someone who is not one hundred percent focused and experienced in the Australian visa process working on your case.
I would further recommend that you manage your immigration lawyer or agent at all times. Be inquisitive, ask questions and drive them along. Check the Australian immigration department website and challenge your immigration agent or lawyer all the time. You will be paying good money, ensure they do good work for you properly and quickly.

Life in Australia
"What's life in Australia Like", you ask? Oh its horrible, all these scenic forests, trains that glide, wild animals on my porch, sunshine, beaches, big shopping centers, massive road infrastructure, first world free medi-care, first class education, kangaroos, harbors, water ways too many things to do.
Hate it. (Life in Australia)
Seriously though - I think compared to other countries Australia is a little different. I think the culture is a little isolated and slightly year 2000's. Big cars are chased for with big houses. Everyone flows out to the beach resorts on holidays. Crazy traffic.
Well on different days I have different opinions.
Life in Australia on TV. TV adverts can be crass, with weird adverts on how to last longer and please you girlfriend? Somehow improving your relationship. There is only one provider - Fox Tel with services costing about $160 per month for the full whack. Very expensive. No competition, monopoly.
Life in Australia for the Macho ? The culture is very old fashioned with macho beer drinking, outdoorsmen drinking beer. On the other hand there are lots of people who don't do this and really quite nice.
Life in Australia for kids? In schools the kids party hard, drink a lot, A LOT, and do drugs, I heard somewhere there is a lot dope smoking - something like the highest in the world.
The reverse is that many of the schools are well equipped. Obviously you have good and bad schools - many of them aligned to area.
Bus and train transport for school kids are free!! First two weeks of school you just need to wear a uniform, after that all kids are issued a student travel card.
Computer gaming is ok, but we are far away from the big server farms in Asia, Europe and America. So in the past high latency has to be endured. Its getting better as the big online gaming companies move infrastructure to Australia.
Life in Australia on the internet? Speeds are slower, bandwidth is more expensive than everywhere else. Government unsure as to whether the internet is important. Data is capped....need I say more- dark ages.
Life in Australia weather ? Well it is hot in Summer - of course there is a winter and for the southern areas like Sydney and Melbourne it gets effing cold. Down to 4 degrees. Winter is long, you need heating, unless you are want to wear warm stuff inside all winter. Lots of houses are not insulated. Prepare to freeze your nuts off. Heaters fly off the shelves.
Life in Australia as a unskilled worker? Hard, very hard - but of course its relevant. May be harder elsewhere.
Life in Australia I high school ? Same as everywhere else. Crappy crowds and cliques following the latest trend or fashion.

Jan 6 - Australian university offers - Round 1 and round 2
Well January 6 came and went, congrats to all those getting some offers.
Here is the official information on the next round on Jan 21 which is the Main Round of offers, some 50000 offers being made last year in this band.

Main Round (January Round 2)
Apply by Friday 5 December 2014 and provide all documents by Friday 16 January 2015 to guarantee consideration in the Main Round. If you’ve already applied, you can change your preferences for the Main Round until Wednesday 7 January 2015.
Most offers are made in the Main Round on Wednesday 21 January 2015 when all institutions try to make enough offers to fill the places they have available.
Main Round offers can be accessed from 6pm on Wednesday 21 January 2015 on UAC’s website. Follow the online instructions and make sure you have your UAC application number and UAC PIN ready
UAC’s institutions made almost 50,000 offers in the Main Round in 2014.
All applicants and all preferences are considered in the Main Round.
Remember that many courses have early closing dates for applying and providing documents. Check the course descriptions through the course search before you apply or change your preferences.
What happens if I don’t receive an offer in the Main Round?
If you aren’t made an offer, your offer letter will explain why your application was unsuccessful. Wait until you have read your letter before seeking advice.
UAC can’t give you any further information other than that in the letter. Contact the relevant institution for further advice on your study options.
Your preferences will automatically be considered in the same order in subsequent rounds. To be considered for other courses for study, however, you must change your preferences.
